Operating Policies

My fundamental operating policy, and therefore the fundamental operating policy of my business and this website, is to do unto others as I would have them do unto me. This doesn't just affect all other policies, it defines them.
There are times when I may collect personal information from you -
email address, name, telephone number, etc.. When that happens you have my word that I will NOT
make that information available to other companies.
There are two BIG exceptions to this. The first is that if you post a
comment to any of the articles, in the guest book, on a bulletin board or in a chat room it will
require you to identify yourself and that will become part of the post available to the public.
The second exception is that if you PUBLICLY post or transmit any material
that may be considered a criminal or civil offense, anything that is unlawful, defamatory, libelous,
threatening, obscene or pornographic , I am more than willing to tell any law enforcement agencies
that are interested everything I know about you.
If you want to make a private comment or do not want your identity made
public then send me an email (using the "Email to Lawrence Haftl" link is the easiest). I consider
emails sent to me as private communications and will not make them public without the specific
permission of the author. However, while I promise to keep your identity confidential I am
completely free to use whatever information you give me in whatever way I may choose without
restriction. The same applies to any and all information posted on this site.
I reserve the right to use your email address to contact you if I think
it is important enough, but don't expect a lot of email from me because there are very few things I
think are that important. If you don't want ANY emails from me then just let me know.
From a business management standpoint the use of cookies makes a lot of
sense. With them a website owner can track where you came from, where you go on the site, when and
how often you visit, and a whole lot more.
Personally, I don't like cookies. I understand their benefits, but I just don't like people putting
stuff on my system unless I know exactly what that stuff is and does. I have cookies disabled in my
own browser, and the only way I'll turn them on is if it is absolutely mandatory in order to get
access to something quite extraordinary.
Therefore, at this time the only place this site uses cookies is where they
are absolutely necessary for identification, i.e., credit card purchases.
There are "external" links on this site, links that take you away from here to other sites. The links should be clearly marked so that you aren't surprised if you use them. Just remember that if you do use them you leave my world and its policies behind to enter someone else's with whatever rules they choose to make. Good luck.
Unless otherwise noted, all text and graphics on this website, including
the HTML code, the "look and feel" of the site itself, even the color combinations, are copyrighted
by, and the exclusive property of, Lawrence Haftl and are protected under United States and
International copyright laws. If you violate those copyright laws don't be surprised if the Hounds
from Hell (aka Legal Beagles) show up at your door.
Just because I've copyrighted something doesn't mean you can never use it.
You just need to get permission from me before you can legally use any of my copyrighted material.
In general I do not allow any of my copyrighted materials to be used on
other websites. If you want your visitors to see something that is on my site then give them an
external link to my page.
I do allow students more freedom to use my materials without asking for specific permission. Students in kindergarten through high school senior can incorporate my materials into school reports, presentations, and even into school websites for free and without asking for specific permission. Should that happen I hope their teachers will use that as an opportunity to help the students understand copyright laws a bit more.
Anyone can link to any public page on my site without asking my permission. I would appreciate it if you let me know that you have made a link, but you are under no obligation to do so. This does not mean that you can link to specific images or text. Link to a page or don't link at all.
I welcome requests to use my work and will respond to them as quickly as
I can. If you are interested in reprinting any of my articles, or in using any of my photographs in
print or electronic format for any reason please contact me to discuss the matter. Simply use the
email link in the upper right corner of every page on this site.
If you want to quote or use any of my material in promotional, packaging
or other commercial products then you need to get a specific agreement from me before you do so.
If you purchase any of my art prints then you are buying a work of art for the purpose of decoration and/or investment. You may resell the print as a copyright protected work of art, but you may not publish the image in any way without my permission. When you buy a print you become the owner of that print but not the owner of the copyright of the image.
All things change and therefore I reserve the right to change any of the above policies as needed.
